Backyard Putting Greens Featured on HGTV

On a new episode of HGTV’s popular program, Don’t Sweat It, a newlywed couple gets help building a backyard putting green. Like many other home improvement shows, Don’t Sweat It focuses on half-day renovations that many homeowners simply don’t have the time to complete. With the help of host Steve Watson and his crew, Ed and Lauren Villaverde realize their dream of revamping an unused portion of their backyard. In just one afternoon, this small team succeeded in converting an overgrown resting place for an old swing into a fun and challenging putting green.

The episode demonstrates that backyard putting greens are not as troublesome to install as they seem. Though the couple had very little space to work with on their modestly-sized property, the crew was able to design a usable putting green that didn’t overwhelm the backyard or limit other activities. Because so many homeowners have room on their property for such an upgrade, this unique episode also highlights the fact that even the smallest yards can include a putting green while maintaining a balance with existing landscaping.

Watson and the producers chose synthetic turf material for the backyard putting green project for a couple of important reasons. First, because the newlyweds had very little time to devote to extra maintenance (the reason Don’t Sweat It stepped in to help), the constant upkeep required of a natural grass putting green was out of the question. Furthermore, as Steve Watson discusses in the segment, the synthetic turf material and gravel base allow for excellent drainage – one of the homeowner’s primary concerns.

While the putting green installed on the program lacked much undulation and utilized products below tour grade, the segment demonstrates the ease with which any homeowner can create a fun practice space. With tour grade turf products from The Putting Green Company, anyone can construct a small backyard putting green like the Villaverdes’ in a weekend or less. The Putting Green Company also offers comprehensive assistance to anyone installing a backyard putting green, from our detailed instruction manuals to phone and online support. On the other hand, if you don’t have time or the technical aspects of the project seem too daunting, The Putting Green Company has plenty of licensed installers throughout the United States available to help you.

This episode of Don’t Sweat It first aired on February 10, but is scheduled to re-air on March 8 and March 9. Click here for more information on this program.
